EPMO Agile Courses for Insurance & IT Personnel

Overview

While consulting for Globe Life on improving the engagement and scalability of their learning experiences, I helped them create asynchronous online courses focused on the Agile workflow and methodology, as well as the supporting tools used. Although many of the concepts had been instructed throughout the company for some time, the retention was severely lacking and engagement with the outdated content was a pain point for this learning team.

Needs Analysis

Working with Globe Life's L&D department, I analyzed the knowledge and performance gap that existed within various teams across the firm related to enterprise project management and overall cross-departmental workflows. It was determined that staff at this global insurance company would benefit from a series of trainings covering the Agile methodology and EPMO. Similar content had been delivered as instructor-led trainings in the past but needed to be redesigned in order to be more scalable, evergreen, and demonstrate a better return on investment for the L&D managers involved.

Design & Development

In order to fulfill this request and provide the greatest possible value, I leveraged existing content and led efficient working meetings with SMEs to outline ideas, design roadmaps and mockups, and rapidly develop iterations of the eLearning solution. Along with gathering, organizing, and working through the existing content, I spoke with the team members to perform an analysis of what the greatest possible solution we could provide for learners and their company would be within the confines of their tight deadline.

Other learning experiences I designed and developed included an interactive course on data privacy, as well as a simple onboarding experience on the company’s Slack setup and different department channels. For these experiences, I outlined the content with storyboards and created knowledge checkpoints for learners to complete along the way.

Results

By shifting mundane slides, multiple hours of speaker notes, and static documentation into interactive eLearning experiences we were able to accomplish three crucial improvements:

  1. Less overall seat time for learners
  2. More engagement and increased retention (per LMS-provided data)
  3. Cleaner, more modern design with improved, brand-aligned visuals
